Client’s Objective

The client is seeking to grow a family based nursery business and increase his market exposure. He viewed a web site as essential to his growth, but wanted to retain the image of a family based, friendly business with local roots. The client wanted to feature his extensive catalog online and be able to add and edit photo images and product descriptions. He also wanted to present a more professional appearance to his larger corporate and wholesale customers and his large suppliers.

Target Market

Homeowners and gardeners residing within a 25 mile radius of the nursery, landscape contractors, gardening wholesalers, gardening retailers.

Features

The site incorporates the client’s existing database of products, which was modified for an online application. The modifications incorporate several custom designed admin interfaces to give the client complete edit control over his product line. Other components of the site, as well, include several custom designed admin interfaces to permit the client to change images and text on the site from his desktop. The site also features four distinct home pages, each editable, which change with the seasons. Further, the client can change and update the Specials & Events page to accommodate his changing calendar of events.

Technical Specs

The site consists of 10 public pages, 3 of which feature dynamic content, and 5 dynamic administrative pages (back end), which enable access to supporting databases which store editable content and images. The catalog component of the site features 5 additional dynamically built pages which enable the client to access different levels of his product catalog. In the catalog the client is able to create and edit categories and plant groups; add, edit, organize and categorize new products and easily add plant descriptions and images and move products between different categories.

Results

The client is delighted with the totally re-vamped catalog and the increased flexibility it affords him in managing his product line, especially the introduction of plant category descriptions and colorful images. The new, redesigned site has seen increased traffic over the old site, has increased customer awareness, increased foot traffic at the nursery and expanded the client’s market area and customer base.
